WHY A HOTEL
Shelter beds solve tonight. A door solves the next six months.
Our shelter station spends most of its energy on the same bottleneck: a family is placed for three nights, then placed again, then again. Nothing gets fixed in three-night increments. What breaks the cycle is a unit with a lock, a kitchenette, and a lease measured in months.
So we bought the motel. Forty-two rooms on two floors, a parking lot, and a laundry that has not run since 2011. Trades from our own network are doing the work at cost, floor by floor, as funding allows.

Two beds, a kitchenette, a working bathroom, and a deadbolt. Finished in eleven days by four volunteers and one licensed plumber.

We do not borrow against a phase. Each phase begins when its budget is in hand, which is slower and considerably harder to undo.
Roof, water, power
Dry the building, restore the mains, and pass the first inspection.

Storm-displaced households after a SWIFT call
Short-term units held in reserve during storm season.
Every resident is referred by a partner church or agency, keeps a case volunteer, and pays what they can toward the unit from month two.
